MUET

INTRODUCTION
MUET is compulsory for all STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) and matriculation students, as well as diploma and pre-university students who wish to pursue a first degree program in local universities. There is no entry requirement for MUET. For STPM and matriculation candidates, MUET will automatically be a required subject for all students to take, but it will not be shown in your result slip. There will be a separate result slip for MUET.

PURPOSE OF THE  ASSESSMENT

There are a total of four papers in MUET ranging from Listening (800/1), Speaking (800/2), Reading (800/3) and Writing (800/4). This is to ensure that students master all four skills, rather than just being good at one but struggle with the other three.
The Malaysian government’s aim is to produce students who can converse in English comfortably, but more than just that – students who can master the English language in order to become a competent competitor in the corporate world with English being the International Language in this age and time.

OPINION ABOUT THE ISSUES

It is highly encouraged that you find out about the minimum grade for MUET in the degree course(s) which you are planning to apply for. This will increase your eligibility in getting the course(s) that you are applying for.

For example, courses like Law, Pharmacy and Medicine require a minimum of Band 5 in order for applicants to qualify themselves a place in university.

If you are thinking of studying abroad, then you might want to find out more about other English tests such as IELTS.

SUGESSTION

Yes this assessment really good because ot can improve student in knowledge much  more.

STPM

Introduction

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) was previously known as the Higher School Certificate (HSC). It is largely considered equivalent to the GCE A level qualification in the UK and is accepted for entry into most reputable bachelor's degree programmes in universities all over the world.

All students who have passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) are eligible to sit for the STPM, and will be automatically assigned a place in a government secondary school after the release of the SPM results.
Most students take STPM after attending two years of Form 6 (Lower 6 and Upper 6) at a government or private secondary school. You can also register to take STPM as a private candidate example study on your own without attending classes and sit for the examinations at a designated test center that you will be assigned when you register. (Note that as a private candidate, you can only take STPM a minimum of two years after passing SPM example at the same time as your peers taking Form 6 so there is no speed advantage to taking STPM as a private candidate.)There are 23 subjects that an STPM candidate can choose from, including the compulsory General Paper (Pengajian Am), with each subject consisting of two to four separate papers.

All of the papers taken contribute to the final score. The Malaysian Examinations Council (Majilis Peperiksaan Malaysia) has recently launched the new STPM format, which will combine two forms of assessments, and will be similar to the A levels format. Students will go through a school-based assessment (20-40% of the final score) and a centralised examination (60-80% of the final score). You will take the examinations at the end of each term (3 in total), and students who are not satisfied with their results in their first two terms can retake the examinations at the end of the third term. Recognition and standards for the STPM qualification remains the same.

List of STPM subjects (candidates can take a maximum of five subjects). STPM is an open-list examination. This means that candidates can take any combination of subjects that they are interested in, as long as the subjects are offered by their school or institution. Most government schools have specific streams geared towards arts or science; you can transfer to a different stream from what you start or are assigned to, but it is better to do so early on in the course. You can ask your school administration about the procedure.
Apart from the subjects listed under the STPM syllabus, students will be required to sit for the Malaysian University English Test (MUET), a prerequisite to enter public universities.

Purpose of assessment

The purpose of the STPM is when student get the great result they can continue study in University or other. This way they can get more knowledge and can get a degree to get the best jod for their future.

Opinion about the issues

I agree because its the great way for student because they can continue study and can decide their future. It give student chance to study hard again so they can prove to parents and other that they also can be the best among all and can earn the best.

Suggesstion

It should be continue in future because it the best way for student to improve their studying and get second chance to improve themselves in future.

SPM

Introduction

The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), or the Malaysian Certificate of Education, is a national examination taken by all fifth-year secondary school students in Malaysia, equivalent to eleventh grade in American's K–12 (education). It is set and examined by the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (Lembaga Peperiksaan  Malaysia).
SPM is equivalent to the O-Level and is the second last public examination at the secondary school level before the entry into a tertiary level education at a university or other higher education institutions

Purpose of assessment

This is to know the level of performance of the student. By doing examination the student will be place in the right school as well as their course. On the other hand, it is also to separate the student into classes at the different level. SPM is the most important exam for students as a determinant to further their study.

Opinion about the issues

Other reason why public examination should not be abolished is there will be a competition among the student itself .By doing the examination, it is like a self test to see the position of the students in their study. So that, it can evaluates the students achievement. Besides that, the students are will not only compete with themselves but with other people too. They will work hard in the examination to pass with the flying colours. Not only that, it will increase the knowledge of the student to beat with other people. Beside that, the students will take the examination seriously so that they will achieve their self satisfaction.

Suggesstion

We must proceed the rule of making SPM in our country. It for student benefit too. It will make student more prepared in the future and also can handle the time in studying. SPM were the exams that kept the student focused in the academics during their primary and secondary schools day. Beside that ,it is not relevant to abolish the examination because the students need to be prepared for something in the future.

PT3

Introduction

THE first batch of 453,413 form three students including private candidates has completed the very first Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) or Form Three Assessment .It ended with written examinations which were scheduled from October 12 to 17. The written tests are the final phase of the PT3 exams. The other two phases were case studies and oral tests which were conducted in July and August.
PT3 is a lower secondary school examination that replaces PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah). It has the same scope as PMR before, by using summative assessment to evaluate students overall intellectual ability at lower secondary level.

Purpose of the assessment

The Malaysian Examination Board and state education department will be the moderator to ensure the candidates validity and reliability scores. In some districts, the questions are prepared by the District Education Office (PPD) in which they provided different sets of examination questions for different schools. It is not like the previous centralized examination system.

Opinion about the issues

PT3 is open to bias and abuse, unlike PMR which is produced, administered and graded by an independent body outside the school which is the examination board .This is because for PT3, only the questions are produced by the board while the administering and grading will be done by the teachers of each individual school.

Suggestion

My suggestion is  teachers need to fully comprehend and cope themselves first and then it will be easier for the school to apply it to the next batch of candidates.  Besides that, should be given more time for training and briefings, especially on the procedures.

UPSR

Introduction

Primary School Achievement Test, also known as Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (commonly abbreviated as UPSR; Malay), is a national examination taken by all students in Malaysia at the end of their sixth year in primary school before they leave for secondary school. It is prepared and examined by the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (Lembaga Peperiksaan Malaysia), an agency that constitutes the Ministry of Education. Students in national schools (sekolah kebangsaan) are required to take five subjects, in addition to an aptitude test. Students in Chinese and Tamil national-type schools (sekolah jenis kebangsaan) are required to take two additional language subjects, totalling seven subjects. Multiple choice questions are tested using a standardized optical answer sheet that uses optical mark recognition for detecting answers.

Purpose of the assessment

The government made a UPSR to determine the level  in the learning and development of students . Teacher can guide and teach students  to learn better in future in subject they don’t understand. Beside that government made UPSR because to make student more mature in life for example to getting ready when exam and must read and learn a lots to success in future.

Opinion about the issues

In my opinion this was a great action for students because  this way can make student learn nothing comes easy in life. We must try harder and smarter to success. We must has effort to success and make family proud. Its really good to proceed to make student learn smart and become more clever and wise.

Suggestion

My suggestion is, government must improve teacher skill to educate students because teacher is like a mirror in students eyes. Teacher must have characteristic feature and be a role model to students. Its is important because nowdays student make their teacher as idol that they wanted to be or copy.
